Welcome Partners & Collaborators
Re-Imagining Migration's partnership strategy is multi-layered and intentionally designed to create comprehensive, systemic support for immigrant-origin youth through education. Our partnerships span four critical domains: educational organizations, cultural institutions, community-based NGOs, and school district programs. By collaborating across these sectors, we create a robust ecosystem of support that can develop, distribute, and implement resources that transform how schools approach migration and belonging.
Key partnership approaches include:
- Non-Profit Partnerships: We work with national educational organizations like Share My Lesson, the Aspen Institute, and the National Council for Social Studies to develop and disseminate resources at scale. Our strategic collaboration with History Co:Lab has been particularly impactful, allowing us to embed our approach in high-profile educational initiatives led by organizations like the Carnegie Foundation, Lego, and XQ Learning.
- School District Collaborations: Our partnership with the New York City Public Schools Division of Multilingual Learners demonstrates our approach to systemic change. The division team worked with educators to create a series of grade specific curriculum units exploring migration as a shared human experience. In other districts, our work has focused on leading professional development or guiding instructional teams.
- Media and Educational Publishing Partnerships: We collaborate with content creators and publishers like Principe Productions, Lee & Low Books, and Harper Collins to create thoughtful, culturally responsive educational materials that help students and teachers explore migration themes. For our media partners, these collaborations enhance the educational impact and market reach of their content by providing structured frameworks for classroom use. Through these partnerships, we develop comprehensive guides that align with the Learning Arc and Re-Imagining Migration framework - as shown in the examples of the "Simple as Water" film guide, the Lee & Low text set recommendations, and the "Frontera" graphic novel teaching materials. Educators benefit with engaging, high-quality content to advance our mission of transforming how migration is taught in schools, and our partners gain expertly-crafted educational resources that help their content reach wider audiences in educational settings and demonstrate their commitment to meaningful social impact. These collaborations result in resources that move beyond surface-level treatment of migration to help students understand it as a complex human experience while providing educators with structured approaches to teach these topics effectively in the classroom.
- Cultural Institution Collaborations: Partnerships with institutions such as the Angel Island Immigration Station and the Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston enable us to integrate resources into educational materials. These collaborations provide educators with nuanced, authentic resources that go beyond surface-level representations of migration, helping students understand migration as a complex, deeply human experience. In turn, we have often partnered on professional learning for educators of community events.
- Community and Policy Partnerships: By working with NGOs like Welcoming America and the National Newcomer Network, we advance fair treatment and opportunities for immigrant students and create channels for meaningful community engagement. These partnerships allow us to develop locally responsive approaches that can be adapted to different community contexts while maintaining a consistent framework of promoting belonging and understanding.
Our ultimate goal is to create a networked approach to educational transformation, where partnerships are not just transactional but transformative—building lasting infrastructure that supports immigrant-origin youth and helps all students develop the skills to navigate an increasingly diverse world.
