Excerpts from PBS’s Finding Your Roots with Henry Louis Gates, Jr. are wonderful resources that you can use to explore the Moving Stories section of Re-Imagining Migration’s Learning Arc. You could use them before or after students participate in a Moving Stories activity in which they interview a peer, family, or community members about their migration story. Indeed, migration stories, whether by choice or through forced migration, are present in the family of every one of the guests featured on the show.

Consider using streaming excerpts from the show as sources for a student inquiry. One question you might use to structure the inquiry is: As you listen to people’s migration stories, what connects these stories between and across each episode, what are the differences between them, and what is gained by comparing stories of migration?
