Cultivating Learning: Connecting Through Family Stories

In the first of a series of webinars with Smithsonian Education’s Digital Learning Lab, Veronica Boix Mansilla (Re-Imagining Migration, Project Zero, Harvard Graduate School of Education), Micheline Lavalle (Fairfax County Public Schools Family Literacy Program), and Carola Suárez-Orozco (Re-imagining Migration, University of Massachusetts Boston) explore the use of family stories in and out of the classroom to help children and youth discover, listen to, share, and celebrate their family stories with pride and joy. We focus on a series of activities that promote English and Spanish literacy and nurture family relationships and story-sharing habits among children and family members in immigrant-origin communities.

This webinar features resources from the Re-Imagining Migration@Smithsonian collection housed at the Digital Learning Lab. Follow this link to access the lesson ideas and teaching resources described in the webinar.
